I will be speaking September 16 in Freeport at a half-day (1.0 ethics credits!) MSBA seminar sponsored by the New Lawyers section. (https://www.mainebar.org/cle_event_show.asp?id=2381) I’ll be talking about one of my favorite topics – 80B and 80C appeals before the SJC. My written materials go into things like jurisdiction-finality, standing, res judicata, standard of review, deadlines and the appendix. I’ve thrown in lots of case cites, and some hypotheticals, to try to make the materials as user-friendly and useful as possible. Because I don’t like to just recite what’s in the written materials when presenting, I thought I’d weave in some discussion about more big picture SJC issues (e.g. use of exhibits at oral argument).
If anyone has any thoughts of things to include or not include, let me know. All ideas are welcome. If there is any particular 80-80C issue on your minds, I’d like to hear it. Just email – firstname.lastname@example.org.
